Is
This Love?
OK. So, who among you doesn't know about my unluck
in love? For the past four and a half years, I've been single,
ever since the torrid demise of what was once Erina and I. Part
of the reason I've been single for so long is that I haven't
really tried all that hard to find someone. Sure, there was
the whole Jill thing, but we all know how that ended. Apart
from that, I really haven't put in the effort.
Another part of it is that, after what happened
with Erina, I became extremely picky about what girls I did
and didn't go out with. At this point in my life, I'm feeling
an undeniable urge to find "the one." And that's no
easy task, let me tell you.
Well, it wasn't easy until about three years ago.
The problem is, I didn't notice that my problem might be solved
until this past summer.
Yeah, I know. Stupid me, right? Right.
Now, here's the odd part. Unlike Jill, the feelings
that I have for this girl are actually (and more importantly,
genuinely) shared and returned by her. No matter how many times
we've had a falling out, we always ended up back in each other's
arms.
She's actually had those feelings for me since not
long after we met, it just took me and my one track mind a while
to figure it out. Crazy. And you know what?
I love it. Bring it on!
Keep your eyes peeled. The Ranch might have a new
co-owner soon...

A
Cold Wind...
Well, Summer is officially over. You all know what
that means. Well, you know what it means if you live anywhere
north of the Carolina's...
Winter's coming. And around here, that's not a good
thing. It has a habit of getting bitterly cold around here in
the winter months, and the cold is something I can't often stand
to be in.
They say we're in for a particularly snowy winter
around these parts. Why? Because it's been so damn soggy this
past year. Ever since Spring, we've been getting hammered off
and on by what I like to call the "Monsoppies," short
bursts of torrential rainfall. After about six years with drought
warnings and water restrictions, it was good to not have to
hear those words this year.
Sure, that can be construed as a good thing. But
in my neck of the woods, it means "get ready for a ton
of the white stuff, kid."
So now come the preparations for the coming snow
blitz. Hopefully this bit of planning ahead will go alot better
than the plans we had for Hurricane Isabel. That thing totally
missed us after days of "It's gonna nail us good"
hype. Big disappointment if you ask me, not to mention a wasted
night doing nothing til 6am...

Goodbye,
Baby Boy...
Last night, sometime between 2am and 6:30am, my
beloved hamster Smokie passed away.
Recently, he had become very sick, and unfortunately,
there was nothing I could do for him. These last few days were
really rough on both him and myself, as he was suffering, and
I really couldn't stand to see him in that much pain.
For the duration of his time with me (he was originally
Breann's), his one mission was to escape from his cage. No matter
how futile a gesture it was, he still tried to break out anyway.
A few times, his Houdinni impression worked and he managed to
get out, but I soon found him and put him back in his cage.
For a creature the size of a hamster, Smokie was
a big boy. He wasn't fat in an unhealthy way, he was just rather
large. Because of that, when I gave he and Mary Jane their treats
(lettuce, carrot sticks and some mozzarella cheese), he always
got a little smaller portion. I didn't want him to get overweight
and have his health deteriorate.
In the end, I don't know what got the better of
him. This morning, around 10 after 7, I awoke to find him lying
still. So, I placed him in a small card box and took him to
my favorite spot to go as a kid: a pine grove in the woods behind
my house. There, I dug a hole, said my final goodbyes, and gave
him a decent burial.
Goodbye, baby boy. May your return to the great
Circle of Life be a good journey. You were a good ham, my little
friend...

Watching
Isabel
Yep, like alot of the Eastern United States, I'm
watching Hurricane Isabel as it makes its way toward shore.
So why then is someone who lives in the mountains
of Central Pennsylvania worried about something that threatens
the coastline?
When a hurricane slams into the east coast, it often
brings us pretty severe weather here. While the brunt of the
storm hits the coast, what's left afterward heads in our direction,
causing all sorts of weather havoc, especially in the many valleys
we have here. We get torrential rains and wind gusts anywhere
from 40-80 miles an hour. That's not fun.
While we don't have to board up and evacuate, we
do worry about low level flooding, downed trees, power lines,
and a whole mess of brush and debris scattered all over the
damn place. Not to mention the fruitloops who decide they can
drive through the storm and end up getting in accidents.
Being a first responder, I figure I'll watch the
progress of Isabel, because I know that eventually we'll get
called out for something. We already had some rather nasty flooding
earlier this summer. That water hasn't really gone away yet,
either, which creates a problem. With the soaking wet summer
we've had, we most likely won't be albe to handle the rain that
Isabel will bring.
It's gonna get hella soggy around here, so whenever
Isabel decides to hit land, I'll be heading to the fire hall
to sit and wait. Better to be there before hand than trying
to get there in the middle of the whole shebang, right? Right.
Besides, there's cable at the hall, and I can always take my
N64. That is, til we lose power because of the storm...

A
Rough Week...
As if losing Johnny Cash and John Ritter isn't enough...
This weekend, I learned of the passing of Harry
Goz, known most recently for his role as the voice of Captain
Hazel "Hank" Murphy on Sealab 2021 on [cartoon
network]'s [adult
swim] block. He was 71 years old.
Not only has it been a rough week, it's been a rough
year for the entertainment industry. Bob Hope, Katherine Hepburn,
Buddy Hackett, and now Johnny Cash, John Ritter, and Harry Goz,
all within one week. Couple that with the fact that they died
around September 11th and you get a rather sad cocktail.
Hopefully there will be better and brighter news
ahead. But for now, the Ranch continues to mourn the unfortunate
losses of it's favorite people.
Vaya con dios...

I
Walk The Line
Yesterday morning, the world lost one of it's most
beloved entertainers. The Man In Black, Johnny Cash, died of
diabetes complications. He was 71 years old.
Alot of people have heard me say that I despise
Country Music. This is true, to a point. I despise modern Country
music. Old-school Country is awesome. And Johnny Cash was, is,
and always will be, one of the best at his craft.
Rancho Relaxo is saddened by the loss of Mr. Cash.
His mark on music is his legacy. He will be terribly missed
by Country, Rock, and Music fans alike.
We're also saddened by the loss of John Ritter,
one of Hollywood's best comic actors. The star of Three's
Company and Eight Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage
Daughter died Thursday night of a heart condition at age
54. His reputation as one of Hollywood's most loveable personalities
will be missed.
For these two great men, the Ranch stands in mourning.
Vaya con dios...

Party
In Question?
The Party of the Year, mentioned earlier in the
blog, is officially on it's first piece of bad news.
Everbody say Awwww. Awwwwwwwwwww...
The bad news is thus: I'm now unsure of the ability
of Bad Idea to participate in the show. Things have come up,
and it's all up in the air as far as I know right now.
Fear not, though. Since I found out WELL in advance,
I can make a few changes and call in a favor or two. I have
several options for other bands, including Grinder, a band
a few of my friends Chris and Vic have, or the band the neighbor
kid has up the hill from me. Hell, I'll bet they'd be happy
with one hour of time. LOL In fact... Plan formulating.
This might be a blessing in disguise after all,
folks!

Poll
Time!
Added a quick poll to the site! How about that?
Anywho, this time around, it's about the [john
miller program]. They had some serious webcasting gremlins
two weeks ago. Last week and this week have been fine. Can the
trend continue? Voice your opinion!

We Will Never Forget
If you don't know what today is, then crawl back
under your rock and do us all a favor: stay there.
Two years ago today, the worst terrorist attack
in United States history took place as militant Islamic fruitloops
hijacked four planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center
and the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed in my home state
of Pennsylvania when a small band of everyday heroes fought
to regain control of their flight.
Today, we stop to remember the innocent victims
of these attacks, over three thousand in all. Men, women, children.
Black, White, Latino, Arab, Asian. Christian, Muslim, Hindu,
Bhuddist, Agnostic. CEOs and Janitors. Fire, EMS, Police and
Port Authority. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.
Despite our corrupt government, despite our retarded,
so-called leader, and despite the differences we all share,
we will all stop to remember the human cost of hatred and religion
gone way too far. Human. That's what we all are, and that's
what the victims of the 9/11 attacks were.
Let's hope that we can all overcome these petty
reasons to hate each other. Deep down, we all share the common
bond of humanity. Let's not forget that one important fact,
nor forget the lives lost on that day of horror...

Badger
Badger Badger Badger...
My friend in the UK and fellow [jmp]
viewer, Ugly Bob, has created this... Well... Damn, I don't
know how to go about describing it. [just
click here] to find out for yourself. Ha ha ha ha.

Misc. Rambling
LONG weekend for yours truely. Started with karaoke
at Mary's Place, and boy was that joint dead. I mean hella dead.
The next three days were spent babysitting for Breann yet again,
and I finally got home around 9:30 last night.
Smokie has a cold. I'm really worried about him.
I think a trip to the vet is in order, it's just a matter of
figuring out when...
Going to help Corrinna out on Thursday. She's doing
home school (better than public school, I'm sure), and has a
class in web design. Boy, is she lucky she has me or what. Heh.
Oh well. Passing on knowledge is a good thing, and I'm glad
to help her out.
You know, I've been single now for over four years
and two months. That sucks. I'm hoping that soon, I can find
a chance for love. Don't know if I'll find it, but it's worth
the try. The hopeless romantic in me is suffering from lack
of expression, apart from [dbz:ur].
Hopefully, I'll find someone soon, if I haven't already and
don't know it yet...
In two more days, it will have been two years since
the fateful events of September 11th, 2001, the event that led
me to join the fire service. Here's to the hope that nothing
bad will happen. No memorial service this year like there was
last year, just quiet vigilance. So, UBL, if you're scouring
the web looking for targets, I have only two words for you:
BRING IT.
Party News: Invites will begin going out in the
next two to three weeks. Tempered Edge will be unveiling a new
song at the party as well, so show up if you can! Remember:
Saturday, November 8th @ 6pm. Bad Idea goes on at 8, and Tempered
Edge takes the stage at 10. It's going to be one hell of a bash!
Well, it's late (or early, depending on how you
look at it), and this entry is getting too long, anyway. Time
to try and catch those elusive Zs...

And
The Thunder Rolls...
Every day, my hatred of President George W. Bush
grows stronger. Every day, more and more evidence of his corruption
crosses my desk. Every day, I believe more and more that he's
a complete retard.
Seeing as how this is the first time I've ever really
gotten political here at the Ranch (well, since I implimented
this version, anyway), I might as well do it big.
In Texas, Republicans are trying to pass a redistricting
plan that will eliminate seven democrats from their House of
Representatives, giving those seats to Republicans. A power
grab if I've ever seen one. Under threat of arrest, 11 Texas
Democrats are hiding out in New Mexico, shoing their disdain.
Though I don't like Democrats any more than I like Republicans,
I have to give them kudos.
In California, there is an attempt to recall Governer
Gray Davis and replace him. This recall is spearheaded by who?
Republicans. Another power grab. I can only hope that the residents
of California, vapid as they are, can see through this.
Since "Dubya" has taken office, we've
either invaded or meddled in three countries where we don't
belong: Afghanistan, Iraq, and Liberia. Proof that Bush is a
war monger out for only two things: Money and Power.
Someone please, assasinate this moron before it
gets any worse...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...
Farking Tripod... Farking Terra-Lycos... Farking
Capitalism spilling over onto the net...
As you may have noticed over the past week or so,
Tripod has decided they want to slap a banner ad on everyone's
pages, and with mine, it happens to go right over the top of
my title bar. Gee, thanks. After six long and loyal years as
a Tripod user, I get the shaft.
So now I've been forced to modify every single page
here a the Ranch to accomidate this wonderful little freeloader
sitting at the top of my page. Tripod themselves will be getting
a scathing letter from me soon, count on it...

Party
On, Dudes!
The Party of the Year, mentioned earlier in the
blog, is officially ON! So here's the rundown:
We're celebrating the wedding of Breann and John!
We're also celebrating their birthdays (Oct. 27th and November
4th) as well as my own birthday (November 5th)! And we're doing
it with a huge get together at the Chester Hill Hose Company
Fire Hall in Chester Hill, PA on Saturday, November 8th!
Not only will we be partying in honor of three birthdays
and a wedding, but we'll have live music from two of Central
PA's hottest bands: Bad Idea and my band, Tempered Edge! Two
bands! How can you beat that?
Invitations will be sent out to guests starting
in late September, so get that night off and get ready to party!
After the event at the hall, we're planning an afterparty featuring
(hopefully) at least one of the bands and at least a keg. Stay
tuned to Rancho Relaxo for Party Updates!

Welcome
To The Machine
Oops. Had to fix the posting time on the last entry.
Curse me and my forgetful ways. Sometimes I'm in such a hurry
to post the latest entry that I forget simple little details.
Oh well.
Anyway, time to welcome a friend to the Blog Link
List over there on the right. Allen's Blog is now up and running,
so go check out what's going on in his life. Probably not much,
since it's as mundane as my life is. Welcome to the Ranch, Allen!

LONG Weekend...
What a weekend! Long, fun, and involving alot of
alcohol. Gotta love those weekends! Let's hear it for Labor
Day!
Friday night was Bad Idea show night at Pete &
Mel's. Eyedol Insanity and A Promise Breaking showed up to play
as well, and did a bang-up job with their sets! Plenty of Beer:30s
to go around as well. Fun!
Saturday night was band practice, and Bill decided
it would also be a pretty good party. We wrote a nee song, drank
plenty of beer (or Tequila for Bill), roasted hot dogs and generally
had a blast. Fun!
Sunday night brought the all-nighter at the drive-in.
Clearfield County is lucky to have one of the last few functioning
drive-in theaters left in the US, and a few nights out of the
year, we invade armed with beer! Much beer consumed on this
night! Fun!
Yesterday (still today to me, since I haven't slept
yet) was a day of rest, and holy cow am I sore for some reason.
I didn't overdo it with moving around at all this weekend, so
I have no clue why I feel so rough. Oh well. It'll go away soon.
Nothing to do til Wednesday.
Which is when I find out about the location of the
aforementioned Party of the Year...
